On the 21st of November Philanthropy Ireland held a measuring impact workshop for philanthropy practitioners, facilitated by Dr Leonora Buckland of Stone Soup Consulting.
Dr Buckland joined thePI Annual Donor Symposium 2019 as a panelist on our measuring impact panel and we were delighted that following the symposium, she could join meet with a group of our members and share her insights on this topical theme.
The workshop was designed for practitioners who are developing impact measurement strategies and also those reflecting on their current approach. It explored the reasons why impact measurement and management is so vital in the process of strategic giving, allowing attendees to understand the difference they are making while also making the most of they resources.
The workshop progressed onto a discussion surrounding Theory of Change. Through interactive exercises participantsdesigned and applied measurement indicators to scenarios. Dr Buckland also shared examples of best practices from other organisations as well as recommending materials and guides that could be used by PI members.
The workshop allowed practitioners to come together, to learn and also to discuss the issues and challenges they faced when attempting to measure impact within their organisation. Participants left the session with a strong knowledge about how impact measurement can benefit their organisation and allowed them to see how other foundations are approaching the topic.
